Large Vintage Chinese Carved Soapstone Triple Brush Washer & Brush Pot

A substantial vintage Chinese hand-carved soapstone scholar’s desk piece, featuring three integrated vessels surrounded by exceptionally intricate pierced and openwork carving.

The design incorporates two broad brush-washer vessels and a taller brush pot, surrounded by flowering branches, blossoms, leaves and birds. The carving extends throughout the piece, creating numerous pierced openings and giving the whole sculpture considerable depth and detail.

The natural soapstone displays attractive cream, ochre and russet colouring, with darker markings and variations running through the stone. The vessels are further decorated with finely incised designs.
