A beautifully detailed medium-sized vintage Chinese soapstone brush washer, hand-carved with two adjoining vessels surrounded by birds, flowering branches and extensive pierced decoration.
The two vessels have softly irregular forms with incised decoration to their surfaces. Between them, a carved bird perches amongst blossoms and branches, while the surrounding rockwork is deeply pierced to create an attractive openwork effect.
The natural soapstone has lovely variations of warm honey, cream, brown and darker mineral tones throughout.
